Defeat Depression London

The Defeat Depression Campaign provides hope and reduces stigma for people impacted by depression and other mood disorders.

Across Canada, mental health organizations, community groups, caring companies and volunteers are planning walks, runs, rides and other physical and social activities to raise funds and awareness for mental health.

Depression is a common illness that impacts many individuals and families and strikes all socioeconomic, educational, and cultural backgrounds. Physical activity such as walking and running, along with social interaction, can have a positive effect on mental well-being, and opening the dialogue on mental illness can help educate people and break down the barrier of stigma.

HU
London, Ontario

Humana Community Services is one of the most highly regarded providers of children’s mental health services in southwestern Ontario. As a licensed and accredited children’s mental health agency, with over 50 years as a service provider, we offer a wide range of services to support children, youth and families coping with a mental health challenge.

Together, through a standardized screening and intake process, we assess the young person’s needs to collaboratively develop individualized treatment and service plans that focus on their abilities and areas for improvement.

The standardized Child and Youth Mental Health (ChYMH) assessment system developed by interRAI (an international collective of researchers and clinicians from over thirty countries) provides a coordinated approach to the delivery of children’s mental health care across agencies. The assessment allows us to prioritize safe practices in an effort to help reduce the severity and frequency of harmful behaviours.

PHSS Medical & Complex Care in Community
London, Ontario

PHSS is a non-profit organization that provides unique and flexible supports and services so that people with complex medical, physical, and/or developmental needs can live the life they choose as part of the community.

PHSS supports more than 250 individuals in more than 60 locations across Ontario, providing 24-hour residential supports, day and overnight respite, specialized complex medical care and intensive behavioural supports, recreational programs, and support for individuals living at home with their families. We do not believe in discharging people from our supports because their needs increase or change; our services are flexible and innovative, shaped around the needs of the people we support and always adjusting in response to changes in their circumstances.

Through a unique suite of individual services and supports, PHSS provides an alternative to institutional care. PHSS hires highly qualified staff to provide support in over 60 accessible locations throughout Ontario, and each location is home to between two-five adults. By offering home-based supports, we reduce the pressure on hospitals and institutions and in many cases, substantially reduce the cost of care.

We are committed to encouraging and creating an inclusive community where individuals with disabilities have access to all the community has to offer and are included in a valued and meaningful way. Because we believe that family and friends are an important part of life, we seek to build support circles and encourage people supported to play an active role in the decision-making process.
