Volunteer Opportunity: 1:1 Community-Based MentorOrganization: Big Brothers Big Sisters of London and AreaLocation: London, Ontario and surrounding areaCommitment: 2–4 hours, twice per month | Minimum 12 monthsBig Brothers Big Sisters of London and Area is seeking caring, committed volunteers to become 1:1 Community-Based Mentors for children and youth ages 7–18. This is our traditional mentoring program, designed to match young people who have faced adversity with a positive adult role model who can provide encouragement, stability, and friendship.As a mentor, you’ll spend time building a meaningful relationship by sharing experiences, exploring the community, trying new activities, and simply having fun together. A morning or afternoon social group/event that promotes health and wellness, social interaction and often includes sharing a meal together. Volunteers help plan, grocery shop, cook, serve a meal, set up/clean up and encourage conversation. Not all locations require set up/clean up. For this role, we are looking for volunteers who have experience working in a kitchen and who have their Safe Food Handler's Certificate, or the equivalent in experience.
Join our Friendly Visiting Program and connect one-on-one with an older adult through weekly phone calls or in-person visits. Just 30 minutes to 1 hour of your time per week can help reduce loneliness and create lasting connections. Visit times are scheduled flexibly between you and your matched client, making it easy to fit into your week while making a big impact!
