Volunteer Crisis Responder

Organization: Victim Services of Middlesex-London

Description: Victim Services of Middlesex-London (VSML) Volunteer Crisis Responders provide immediate on-scene emotional support, practical assistance to those impacted by crime or tragic circumstance. Volunteers are on-call and respond to requests by Police and other Emergency Services within London and Middlesex County. Most common requests occur after Sudden death, Domestic Violence or House fires. Volunteers always work in teams of 2 and will attend personal residences, hospitals, police stations or potentially outdoors.  All volunteers are expected to wear PPE and follow existing safety protocols. Volunteers will finish their training by the end of November 3, 2022. Training included 40 hours online training courses (23 modules) completed at your own pace over the Summer and 30 hours in-person training (7 training days on some Thursday evening and 2 Saturdays in late September and most of October). Description: Overview Junior Achievement (JA) is a global organization, operating in 110 countries around the world. In recognition of JA’s impact toward this vision, JA Worldwide has been nominated for the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize. JA South Western Ontario is embarking on an exciting, growth-focused strategic plan, striving to double our student impact by 2025. We are seeking candidates to join our committed volunteer Board of Directors for a three year term. The JA South Western Ontario Board of Directors currently meets 8 times per year. Currently all meetings are held through videoconferencing with a hybrid meeting model expected in future. The board has three standing committees (Executive; Finance & Risk; Governance & Nominations) and uses operational committees to advance the work of the organization as required. Key Considerations The Board is focused on achieving the priorities of its Strategic Planning Framework. Parkinson Canada SuperWalk Coordinator

Description: Parkinson Canada Volunteer Opportunity SuperWalk Coordinator Parkinson Canada is the definitive voice for the Parkinson’s community in Canada. Our purpose is to transform the lives of people living with Parkinson’s. We do this through research leading to better treatments and the end of Parkinson’s, advocacy bringing the voices of Parkinson’s to the forefront and support that helps people live well with Parkinson’s through education and services. A national registered charity, Parkinson Canada operates through the generosity of donors and is an accredited organization under the Imagine Canada Standards Program. The Opportunity SuperWalk Coordinators play a pivotal role in raising awareness and funds for people living with Parkinson’s. They champion and lead the coordination of SuperWalk in communities, from start to finish, with support from Parkinson Canada. They support the organizing committee and ensure a positive experience for event participants. You will solicit sponsors in conjunction with the Sponsorship Coordinator and ensure the funds collected the day of the event are properly recorded and deposited. You will ensure all activities and actions are in alignment with the Parkinson Canada SuperWalk program and Parkinson Canada Policies. Your Contribution As a SuperWalk Coordinator, your people-skills, enthusiasm, and talent for organizing make you an excellent community facilitator. Results Canada Fellowship Program 2023

It is a 11-month hands-on advocacy and leadership training program for volunteers that will develop their skills in generating the political will to end extreme poverty in low- and middle-income countries. It is open to individuals aged 18 years and older who are based in Canada. Description: Our on-going Committees are crucial to the running of the organization in all its various aspects.  These Committees are made up of Board Members and members from the community at large, some with specific expertise that would benefit a particular committee. Joining a committee is a great way to familiarize yourself with the Home County Folk League if you are considering joining the Board. In general, these are the expectations of Committee Members: Attend committee meetings as scheduled, usually 6-10 meetings per year. Prepare for meetings in advance by studying the agenda, reading all supporting material, and researching topics and issues. Participate actively in meeting discussions and formulation of recommendations to the Board of Directors Complete any assigned tasks in the time frame negotiated.   The Committees that make major decisions on what we do and how we do it include the following: Festival Operations Committee This is the group that does all the detailed planning about Festival operations. Things like production (sound & lighting), site infrastructure, performer hospitality, volunteer coordination, safety & security, food and craft vendors, etc. Committee members should be ready to work and lead a team of volunteers on the weekend of the Festival. Finance, Sponsorship & Fund Development Committee This Committee handles the details of the League’s financial management and ensures that the Board meets its fiduciary responsibilities. Home County depends on government grants, corporate sponsorships and private donations for all of its operating costs.  This committee is responsible for identifying appropriate federal, provincial and municipal grants and writing the applications for them as well as seeking out corporate sponsorships and donations. Marketing & Communications Committee This committee handles all the public communication and promotion of the Festival and other events throughout the year.  This includes media promotion and all social media and website activities as well. Planning & Governance Committee This is the group that looks after the details of how the organization is governed. It drafts policies and procedures for Board approval and oversees the strategic planning activities of the League. It is also the nominating committee for the election of Board members. Join ClimateScience as a Community Coordinator!

Study Participants Needed

Description: The MAPPED Lab is recruiting teens 13-19 years old in London who struggle with sudden mood changes, interpersonal relationship challenges, impulsivity, and identity questioning. Our goal is to see whether an online sleep intervention improves these teens’ overall well-being in hopes of learning more about treating and helping these individuals in the community. Participants will be compensated for their time. Your involvement in the study includes filling out surveys on your smartphone, taking part in interviews, and receiving a sleep training session.
