Opportunity Description
Special Olympics Ontario/London is dedicated to enriching the lives of Londoners with an intellectual disability through sport. We support 18 different sports with over 400 athletes.
Volunteer Opportunity: Assistant Coaches for Track and Field
Time Commitment: 2 1/2hours/week
Mondays - 6:00-8:30 pm April 20- June 8, 2026
Location: Clarke Road Secondary School, 300 Clarke Road
The role: All track and field practices begin with warm-up and stretching exercises, volunteers are expected to demonstrate and provide support to athletes at this time. Athletes are split up into four colour groups, each of which has a volunteer leader. Groups are: Running, Long Jump, Mini Javelin, and Shot Put. Experience with the event is an asset but not a requirement. It is best to have at least 2 volunteers at each event, one to coach technique and keep order in ensuring full participation, and another to keep a record of the athletes’ scores and maintaining a clear field/pit. Running may need more than 2 volunteers for the timers.
